2018 Auction Gala Show

Comedian Mo Amer To Headline Antioch School Fundraiser

***The AuctionGala has sold out!*** The Antioch School’s 2018 Auction Gala will feature a hilarious performance with internationally-celebrated comedian Mo Amer on Saturday, March 3, 6pm, at the Foundry Theatre at Antioch College 920 Corry St., Yellow Springs.

MO AMER’S comedy is exactly what the world needs right now! A pioneer of Arab-American standup, Mo has already cemented his stature as an original voice in comedy. Mo’s standup makes controversial news headlines personal.

The gala will include both silent and live auctions, gourmet hors d’oeuvres from Current Cuisine, open wine bar, and dessert. Live auction items in the past have included a one-week stay at St. Croix, US Virgin Islands; a “Day in the Life” documentary featuring the winner’s family, created by an Emmy Award-winning Yellow Springs-based filmmaker; and a private wine tasting with the area’s leading sommelier. The silent auction features over a hundred items, such as B&B overnight getaways, fine dining at area restaurants, tickets to theatrical and cultural events, fine art and jewelry from local artisans, and health and wellness sessions.

The Antioch School is the oldest democratic school in the country and an essential Yellow Springs institution. The Gala is the school’s largest fundraiser, with proceeds supporting the scholarship fund. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by using the Paypal link at the end of this story or by calling the Antioch School at 937-767-7642.

Part improvisation, part memoir, Mo humor reveals his life’s circuitous route, including how he managed to travel the world without a passport for two decades, was held at gunpoint by an American soldier in Iraq, and once had Bradley Cooper (unintentionally) save his life in the Middle East. In addition to touring with Dave Chappelle, Mo has performed in over two dozen countries on five continents––including as the first and only Arab-American refugee comic to perform for U.S. and coalition troops overseas.

Mo has had numerous television appearances including Comedy Central’s @midnight and recently made his late night debut on CBS’s Late Night with Stephen Colbert. He’s also appeared on Bassem Youssef’s ‘Al-Bernameg’ (The Daily Show of Egypt) and served as co-host of Comedy Central Presents. Mo was also recently listed in Rolling Stone’s 2017 “Comedians You Should Know”.
