In the Nursery

Favorite books are already emerging in the Nursery: Chico Bon Bon (the story of a monkey and a tool belt), James Marshall’s George and Martha series, and of course Mo Willems’ Knuffle Bunny and Knuffle Bunny Too are some of the top runners.

The children have picked up the routine very quickly. Many are beginning to sight read their friend’s names when we find out who are Snack Helpers for morning and afternoon.

Inside the focus seems to be arts and crafts projects, puzzles, and constructing with the unit blocks. Outside it is heavy work on the Tire Swing Side moving segments from one of our removed ash trees up onto the retaining wall and back into one of the well worn openings in the bushes to make a camp fire, house, monster lair, and so on as their imaginations tell them. It is real cooperative play very early in the year. To smooth the way along, they are finding some very useful phrases to use with one another: “I need space,” “Time out,” “Stop!” “You can touch my construction carefully, but don’t knock it down.”

On the Cycle Circle Side their focus is running, chase games, climbing, triking, and sand work. Last Thursday, Brian came to spend some time with us and this Thursday we got our Art/Science year going with our first walk down the hall to the Art/Science room with Brian.

In just a week we will begin our traditional Color Days celebration with the Kindergarten that associates with the changing colors of autumn.

Thank you to Lori Clouse, our lunch aide, substitute and Aftercare teacher, for her sub work of last week during my illness.

Stay tuned. There is more to follow!
